The Gober’s

Hi! I’m Calley, and I’m married to awesome Jess, a budding OBGYN, historical fiction bookworm, previously-vegan-recently-pescetarian foodie, botanicals enthusiast, pilates doer, Enneagram 4, heart-and-soul lover of the world. I have set my sights on practicing medicine in unreached areas of the world since high school, and my goal of being an OBGYN took off even earlier, at the ripe age of four! It’s been a long but relatively straight shot from then to now as I finish my residency training in Michigan. After that, I hope to practice overseas. I have a vision that the medicine I’ll serve isn’t just about sickness but an institution of wellness that promotes well-being. “Well-being” means that the soul is free to pour out into the world its visions and desires to impact the world. IE “help others do what is in their heart to do for the world,” as my mentor would say. Ideally, this would happen alongside local partners already serving their communities, and I could come alongside them and add my hands to the mix. Along the way, I met Jess, who, while he eats everything, shares my heart, especially for medicine and the world. He is more than the best friend, husband, and companion I could have hoped to share this adventure with!

Hey! I’m Jess, and I like a lot of things: camping, music, disc golf, household projects, playing with our doggo, Sirius Black, hot tubs, being married to my awesome Doctor Wife, listening to audiobooks, traveling, eating… I met Jesus in my Senior Year of high school, which began a lifelong pursuit of His presence. Not long after, I discovered my heart for world missions, for seeing healing and restoration for all people, in the physical and the spiritual. Then, I met the most amazing woman in the world (Calley Bear Blue, you da best!), married her, and transitioned to further our training in the States. During this process, I have been so blessed with the opportunity to try my hand at many things. Namely, ministry internships, painting houses, Emergency Medical Services as a paramedic, and, most recently, clinical administration. Though my day-to-day life has looked different over the years, my spirit's constant, foundational yearning has been my call to world missions and all things Him. My greatest desire is to live a life steadily in the Presence of the Lord. He is my greatest passion. I am confident in our call to the nations through the avenue of medicine, and I trust the Lord will use us as His hands and feet to bring healing and restoration in Jesus’ name!

Calley is halfway through year three of four in my OBGYN residency. This is the specialty training that is required after graduating medical school. I am a licensed physician, with the supervision of attendings who have completed their own 4 year residency and have further experience. I will graduate in June of 2026! After that time, it is our intention to join a ministry for overseas medical missions called Samaritan’s Purse (or S.P. if you’re speaking our shorthand lingo…). Jess and I are both in the application process this winter, which culminates in the late spring/early summer with an offer to 2-3 sites worldwide. Possibilities include Africa, Central America, and Asia. After accepting a position, we will have our final year of residency to prepare for our big move. As a friend who has followed our story for some time (some of you since we were in high school or earlier!), we would ask for your thoughts/prayers as we are discerning and deciding what is the best fit. We will keep you posted as we move along in the process.

In the meantime, I applied for and have been granted the privilege of serving the current missionaries at their continuing medical education conference this February. This conference hosts missionaries from all over the world (including from the organization to which we’re applying) to come for two weeks with their families for updates in medical training specific to medicine, dentistry, and public health in a mission setting. There are children’s and spouse’s tracks to be able to support their needs as well.

I have been offered the position of Surgical Track Administrative Assistant, which includes conference administration, set up, directing, and pretty much any task that needs extra hands. Jess and I will be traveling to Thailand for this volunteer mission position. We will be able to meet and network with people serving all over the world, including many of the hospitals in which we may have the opportunity to join in just over a year and a half.
We think we are the luckiest couple of folks in the world to be on this adventure, with so much ahead. We are really thankful for your continued interest in our pathway to this BIG GOAL of moving overseas to practice medicine. It’s been a long process, so thank you for sticking with us.

Both the Thailand conference and the position at Samaritan’s Purse are self-supported positions. We’d like to ask that you’d consider a one-time gift in support of the medical conference this February, and in the future, an openness to hear more about our needs long term while overseas. My residency program is supporting us with funds for my own CME (continuing education), with the remaining conference balance out of pocket being $3598. We have the opportunity for some personal travel tacked onto the end of the trip, which will be funded by our own savings.

By the partnership of Share Hope International, your gift will be tax deductible. We are so appreciative. Thank you!
